THE CASE
A team of certified professionals is not the same as a capable function.
Capability sits in how a function is designed, how consistently it operates, and what it produces. Individual qualifications tell you about the people. They do not tell you whether the function around them works.

Assessment can be scoped at enterprise, regional, country, business unit or functional level.
TWO DIMENSIONS
Conformity first. Then performance.
1. Conformity
Does the function meet the published standard? Findings are recorded as conformity or nonconformity, and nonconformities are classified as major or minor. This is the threshold.
2. Performance
How far beyond that threshold does the function operate? This determines the level of recognition.

Scope
The standard for your sector is agreed, along with the level at which the function will be assessed.
Diagnostic
An initial review establishes where the function currently stands.
Pre-audit
The function is examined against the standard. Not whether processes exist, but whether they are properly designed, actually deployed, consistently applied, and producing results. Evidence is verified rather than accepted.
Improvement
Findings are yours to act on. Who does the work and how is your decision. Where asked, SCPMI can suggest options, but the Institute does not carry out remediation on functions it assesses.
Post-audit
The function is examined again. Findings go to an independent Recognition Board, which decides.
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Three things worthknowing before you commit.
The standard is published.
Standards are drafted and validated by practitioners in the sector, so the requirements come from the professionals who work to them. You can read the standard you will be measured against before you decide to be measured.
We do not consult on organizations we assess.
An institute that repairs a function and then grades it has an interest in the verdict. Improvement is your work, done however you choose.
Assessors are certified as individuals.
They evaluate evidence. They do not help build it, and they do not assess where they have an interest.
Payment for an assessment does not guarantee recognition.

An award states what was examined, and nothing beyond it.Recognition runs for three years, and every organization holding current recognition appears on a public register.
